DAFB : Transfer Pump Runaway B

To avoid serious injury follow all warnings and instructions in the manual. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Refill or replace drum.

Condition material temperature per manufacturer's recommendations before spraying.

Inspect the transfer pump lower for wear or fatigue.

  • Worn seals can cause pump to run excessively fast and/or not generate the desired supply pressure.
  • A broken top pin in the pump lower will cause the pump to easily move in both directions without generating pressure
  • A broken bottom pin will cause the pump to only generate pressure while moving down.  The pump will easily move upward while not generating pressure

Introduction of air into a material (causing frothing) can create transfer pump runaway situations. Over agitating/mixing a material can cause frothing (especially when material level in drum is low). Reduce agitation/mixing speed if material frothing occurs.
